River levels returning to normal
River enthusiasts have been venturing out into a safer, shallower river in the past few weeks to enjoy scenes like this. As a bonus, fishing has been phenomenal as well.

This photo, taken in Broken Arrow slough near La Crosse, shows a maple turning color in the month of August.

The river is still well above its normal mid-summer level. The water above and below the Onalaska spillway are at the same height! This vegetation has grown right up the woodline.
